![]() Since drive by wire systems are completely electronic, safety design dictates a method to use mechanical and electronic measures to reduce/eliminate any chances of losing control of throttle. No steel cable between the pedal and throttle, wires connect all three components for a closed loop feedback system - throttle actuator, pedal and engine computer (ecm). Dbw systems are completely electrical/electronic systems (exactly the same as fly by wire systems used in commercial aircraft) the throttle uses a servo motor to open and close the throttle plate driven by commands from the ecm as directed from the electronic pedal. Here's a general idea to tell the difference between electronic drive by wire systems and older/conventional throttle bodies conventional throttle bodies still use a steel cable between the pedal and throttle body while dbw systems do not have this steel cable. There is nothing about it in my LW200 manual for 2003. Was this a option on the 300/V6 series and not the 200/2.2? ![]() What's this reduced power mode Fdryer spoke about? Please help!! So basically the car will start fine and drive fine until about 3-4 miles and then its almost like someone took off the gas pedal. But like I said I don't know anything about cars. I've done some research and BCM and TCM seem to possibly be the problem. His guess is that the problem has something to do with the throttle housing? He doesn't want to replace that on just a guess because it's a $450 guess. He got a code on the car that was the O2 sensor and he replaced that. He has asked around to his mechanic friends also and no one seems to know what's going on. I really don't know anything about cars and my mechanic has never experienced this either. My mechanic asked me to join one of these forums and hopefully someone here would know how to fix it. One guess if you see an engine symbol with a large down arrow, this is the Reduced Power mode also know as limp home mode if either pedal or throttle fault occurs to prevent a runaway engine in drive wire by wire throttle systems. Without posting what the other error codes are, its guessing on anyone's part. Erasing codes doesn't fix anything if problems remain.when the next engine start turns on the CEL and the problem(s) isn't/aren't addressed. Whether your mechanic is completely forthcoming or not, you mentioned several codes. If the check engine light is still ON, error codes exits.
